Creating a greener aerospace sector continues to be a priority for the industry in Ontario and across Canada. To that end, Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) is pleased to announce a second group of collaborative projects funded by the DAIR Green Fund.
The DAIR Green Fund provides financial support to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) advance the technology readiness of projects that can help reduce the environmental footprint of aviation and aerospace. This fund is supported by the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), as part of the Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI).
The DAIR Green Fund recipients in the second round: Advanced Mobility Products Inc., Columbiad Launch Services Inc., Plan de Vol International Inc. (FliteX), Promation Engineering Ltd., RAMPF Composite Solutions Inc., Superwake, Tristar Coatings Ltd. and Zentek Ltd.
In August 2022, FedDev Ontario announced support the Green Fund, as well as DAIR’s Supplier Development Initiative (SDI). The first eight (8) projects selected to receive Green Fund support were announced in March of 2023.
“DAIR appreciates the Government of Canada’s continued support of the aerospace sector’s commitment to innovating for a green transformation,” says Maryse Harvey, Executive Director of DAIR. “The Green Fund projects will advance research and development and collaboration in the sector and drive further increases in both sustainability and competitiveness.”
FedDev Ontario’s investment is also supporting three (3) additional projects through the DAIR Supplier Development Initiative (SDI). Designed to help SMEs build their capabilities and capacity, the SDI involves a three-step approach whereby experts guide SMEs to improve their ability to meet the needs of the evolving global aerospace sector and create better customer relations with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 companies.
“The DAIR Green Fund continues to provide valuable support to businesses that are leaders in creating sustainable innovations. Their hard work will help Canada’s aerospace sector grow and thrive. The Government of Canada is committed to supporting the people and businesses working hard to find new ways to move toward a greener future for Canadians,” says Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
All of the funding recipients were selected through a rigorous process based on industry best practices, spearheaded by a review committee composed of five (5) members with diverse background and expertise from across industry, academia and research centres.
The DAIR Green Fund projects will be featured at the DAIR to Innovate 2023 conference on October 24, 2023, as part of the Tech Showcase.
